| Q-Park have taken parking safety and convenience to another level with the development of PaSS (Parking as a Smart Service), a new digital parking solution.
Q-Park is delighted to be able to partner with what3words to be able to help visitors find all our car park entrances using just three words. This partnership will help customers navigate to the Q-Park facilities even easier than before!
what3words is a really simple way to communicate any precise location. The system has given every 3 metre square in the world a unique combination of three words: a what3words address. People can find, share and save what3words addresses using the free app or online map at what3words.com.
So how does this work for parking with Q-Park? All parking facility pages on the Q-Park website will now have the what3words addresses added to them. You can see an example at our The Spire car park which can be found at ///wonderfully.assure.heave.
Simply download the free what3words app for iOS or Android. Enter the three words for the car park entrance into the search bar in the format word.word.word - remember to separate each word with a dot! Then, select ‘navigate’ to get directions straight to that exact location using Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze.
Several in-car navigation systems will accept what3words addresses. Once you’ve looked up a what3words address you can input the three words into the following in-car navigation systems to get directions straight there: Navmii, Mercedes-Benz, HERE, Ford App link, Avenza Maps.

How what3words came about
The what3words story is interesting, it was devised by its founder who lived in a rural area where postcodes and streets can cover miles upon miles of rolling fields and farmland. The idea behind this was to improve the quality of postal deliveries to his house. Essentially the world was divided up into 57 trillion squares, each measuring 3m by 3m (10ft by 10ft) and each were given a unique, randomly assigned address made of three words: a what3words address.
what3words can be used for free by anyone via the app or online map at what3words.com. It is available in over 45 languages. The app works offline. The app has been so successful since its inception that is now has many millions of users spread across 193 countries. This isn’t just a consumer app; it has started to be adopted by businesses and government organisations across the world.
