Q-Park are thrilled to be able to designate their Hynes Yard parking facility in Galway as a Mobility Hub.
Q‑Park Hynes Yard is a modern, secure multi‑storey facility in the heart of Galway city, offering over 600 parking spaces. It sits just a short walk from key attractions like Eyre Square Shopping Centre, Galway City Museum, Lynch’s Castle, and the bustling Docks. In mid-2024, Q‑Park completed a rebrand and refurbishment of the site following its acquisition of the Park Rite portfolio. Upgrades included new external branding clearer internal way‑finding signage, the installation of the PaSS automatic number‑plate‑recognition system for seamless entry and exit, and the installation of EV Charging Points. With digital payment methods, and proximity to Galway’s most popular shopping and cultural spots, Q-Park Hynes Yard is a reliable and convenient solution for both short-term visitors and long-term contract holders.
Q-Park have been at the forefront of the European Parking industry in the creation of Sustainable Mobility Hubs. The aim is to develop parking facilities into vital instruments to help realise urban accessibility, sustainability and liveability. In addition to car parking, Q-Park are also aiming to provide access for shared mobility schemes, rapid electric fleet charging, last mile delivery and retail space all within their safe and secure parking facilities. Within their recently announced sustainable mobility strategy, Q-Park provided 4 specific criteria that they use to designate a parking facility as a Mobility Hub; Parking, Charging, Booking and Sharing.
Q-Park Hynes Yard successfully fulfils all the required criteria. The Parking component is clearly satisfied, with the facility offering over 600 parking spaces. The Charging requirement has been met since Q-Park assumed operation of the site, thanks to the installation of 8 EV Charging Points - enabling more emissions-free travel throughout the Galway area. The car park also supports online pre-booking, a feature that helps reduce urban search traffic; customers who reserve in advance can drive directly to their destination without having to circle the area in search of a space. Lastly, the Sharing criterion is addressed by the presence of an Avis Budget Car Rental branch within the facility, promoting shared mobility options in Galway City Centre.
John Denton, Director of Commercial at Q-Park Ireland commented ‘At Q-Park our aim is to be the sustainable mobility partner of choice by 2030 and we are looking to designate parking facilities as Mobility Hubs in all cities that we operate. We look forward to seeing the environmental benefits that Q-Park Hynes Yard can bring to the people of Galway.’
