This Halloween, the Museum of Literature Ireland invites visitors to explore the darker side of Irish storytelling with a special programme inspired by Samhain, the ancient Celtic festival associated with the supernatural and the changing seasons.
Taking place within MoLI's historic building on St Stephen's Green, the Haunted Literary Tour combines fascinating literary history with chilling tales of ghosts, folklore and mysterious encounters.
Running daily from 24 to 31 October, between 2pm and 3pm, MoLI's Haunted Literary Tour takes visitors on a journey through the supernatural stories connected to Irish literature and the museum itself.
Discover the history of Burn-Chapel Whaley and the notorious Hellfire Club, whose extraordinary past is connected to the building that now houses the museum.
Visitors will also encounter the death masks of celebrated Irish writers Patrick Kavanagh and Brendan Behan while learning about the darker stories behind Ireland's literary heritage.
The tour explores Ireland's connections to Gothic fiction, including the Irish roots of Dracula and the supernatural traditions that inspired generations of writers.
From changelings and fairy hills to ghostly apparitions and mysterious legends, visitors will discover how folklore has shaped some of Ireland's most memorable stories.
Combining history, literature and Halloween atmosphere, the tour offers an entertaining way to experience the country's rich storytelling traditions.
On Tuesday 27 October at 6.30pm, MoLI also hosts a special Samhain lecture titled A Visit from the Banshee: Migration and the Irish Ghost Story.
Presented by Dr Katie Mishler, the lecture explores how Irish ghost stories and Gothic traditions travelled beyond Ireland while maintaining their connections to home, identity and folklore.
This separately listed event provides an additional opportunity for visitors interested in Irish literature and supernatural storytelling.
Alongside the Halloween activities, visitors can explore MoLI's permanent exhibitions celebrating Ireland's extraordinary literary heritage.
Discover the stories of famous Irish writers, explore interactive displays and learn more about the country's contribution to world literature.
Highlights include exhibitions dedicated to James Joyce, Irish storytelling traditions and the development of Dublin as a UNESCO City of Literature.
